Winter Wellness Month!

Welcome to Winter! We can’t believe how fast this year is flying, how is it June already? As we welcome winter with higher gas bills and more flat white orders, we encourage you and your team to use Perkbox to stretch your pay-checks and have some winter fun together. Our first tip to beat the winter blues is to promote the use of gratitude through recognition through out the team.

We’ve decided to theme this month around wellness both inside and outside of the office. Winter Wellness month is jam-packed with opportunities to focus on your team’s physical and mental health. From Global Health Day, to International Day of Yoga, and even Take Your Dog to Work Day, the wellness opportunities are endless!

This culture calendar is here to provide you with lots of opportunities to drive Perkbox usage within your team, and build on a culture of community and recognition that we all strive for. Have a fantastic month and let us know if you have any questions.


Week 1: May 31 - June 6

Kick off Winter Wellness Month

Admin to-do list:

  • Thursday is Mabo Day, which marks a historic moment for Australia. On June 3rd 1992, A First Nation’s man Eddie Mabo won the court case which fought to disprove the legal definition of ‘terra nullius’, or land belonging to nobody.

  • We recommend you take the time to educate yourself and your team about this important day, and take part in respectful discussions about the importance of Mabo Day and what it means for Australia. Please be sure to check-in with your First Nations staff members to ensure that the discussion is appropriate and meaningful.

  • Order the team donuts in celebration of National Donut Day, with 20% off the menu at Tella Balls, alternatively you could buy donuts from Coles or Woolies using your 5% discount.


Week 2: May 7 - June 13

Queensland and Western Australia Day!

Admin to-do list:

  • Queensland Day was on Sunday and Western Australia day is on Monday- for all of our QLD and WA Perkboxers, take the time to celebrate the day! If you’re an alcohol-drinking office, use your Jimmy Brings or BWS perk to buy some celebratory bevvies. For those who are non-alcoholic, use your Woolies voucher to get some goodies for the office, or go for a team lunch to celebrate.

Choose a club depending on which Perkbox package you are on:

  • Book clubs are an awesome way to bring the team closer together, and also to drive Perk usage. Encourage the team to download Blinkist and read a book together.

  • Dinner clubs are a wonderful idea to drive that sense of community and spend some quality time outside of the office together. Encourage the team to pick a local restaurant and use their 20% discount.

  • Celebrate Global Wellness Day on Friday by organising a healthy potluck lunch, and encouraging a team member to do a wellness inspired lunch and learn. Some examples of lunch and learn topics to choose from:

    • How to get better sleep

    • How to decrease screen time

    • Mindfulness exercises

    • Achieving better work-life-balance

    • Meditation and gratitude

    • Healthy boundary setting

  • Here is a Google sheet template to help you organise your potluck lunch, please make a copy and share it with your team.

Below is some email copy, feel free to share this with the team to prepare them for the week, choose option 1 or 2 depending on which package your team is on:

Hey everyone,

I hope you're having a wonderful start to the month, and are staying warm. Just a quick update on what's to come this week.

Firstly, I encourage you all to download your free Blinkist app, and read "Leadership is Language" by David Marquet. Blinkist summarises the best non-fiction books into bite-sized pieces. This means that you can digest all the best insights from a book without taking the time to read it cover to cover. It's the perfect app for our busy lives.

Global Wellness Day is on Saturday, we will be celebrating it on Friday with a wellness inspired potluck lunch. Here is a sign up form for that (insert link). Please fill in the sign-up form so we can get organised for Friday :)

It would be awesome if someone from the team could lead a short lunch and learn, to teach us about a specific topic or interest. You can choose anything but let's try to centre it around wellness. Some topic ideas:

- How to get better sleep
- How to decrease screen time
- Mindfullness
- Meditation and gratitude
- Healthy boundary setting

Let's start a dinner club! Each month or so we can get the team together and choose a restaurant that has a 20% discount through Perkbox. We could pick a new cuisine each month and explore our local or non-local haunts :)

Week 3: June 14 - 20

Warm up and donate some blood!

Admin to-do list:

  • Remind the team of their DoorDash perk by organising a group coffee date in the office. Encourage the team to use their $5 voucher and buy themselves a warm drink to beat the winter blues.

  • Monday is International Blood Donation Day, locate the nearest blood drive and encourage your team to give blood. Use your Woolies or Coles perk to supply the break room with some cookies and juice for the donors.

  • June 18 is International Sushi Day! Remind the team of their $5 DoorDash credit by encouraging them to redeem it on some sushi for lunch on Friday.


Week 4: June 21 - 25

International Yoga Day and BYO Dog Day

Admin to-do list:

  • Monday is International Yoga Day, which is a great opportunity to use your Boxx app perk. Run a lunchtime yoga session using the Boxx app, or, if there is a yogi in the office, ask them to teach the class. Depending on what the weather is like, book out an office or take the team to the park for a lunchtime yoga session.

  • Wednesday is International Women in Engineering Day. If you have female engineers on your team, this is a perfect opportunity to highlight and celebrate their achievements in your team catch-ups. Remove this section from the email copy below if it is not relevant to your office.

  • Friday is Take Your Dog to Work Day! You know what to do….

Here is some email copy:

Hey everyone,

There are lots of fun things this week that I’m excited to tell you all about. Starting on Monday, which is International Yoga Day. Did you guys know that your free Boxx app has loads of free yoga classes?

We will celebrate on Monday by doing a group yoga class at the park or in the office. If any of you are interested in leading the yoga class, please send me an email.

Wednesday is International Women in Engineering Day. This day aims to highlight the amazing work by women in engineering and technical roles. It also allows everyone to join in and celebrate the achievements of our outstanding women engineers. I am so proud of our female engineers and would love for you to brief the team on what you are working on this year, and what you have achieved thus far.

Friday is *drum roll*..........Take Your Dog to Work Day! Please bring in your furry friends and don’t forget their food and drink bowls, and a bed for them to sleep on if they have one. We can’t wait to meet your pups :)
